Does natural soap have a shelf life?
We'd like to say that handmade soaps don’t have a shelf life. You can literally keep bars of soap around for years and they won’t be affected---if you take care of them. While soap that is a few years old is still OK to use, some characteristics like scent and color may become degraded over time. To experience the aromatherapy benefits of our soaps, we recommend that you use your soaps within the first year of purchase. We encourage you to experience your soaps soon after purchasing them, but if you do not plan to use them right away, keep them dry and away from direct sunlight.
What makes your soap so special?
Cedarwood Soaps are special for so many reasons. All our soaps are made with pure vegetable oils, clays, herbs and botanicals. We pride ourselves on our generous selection of soaps and customize each soap with its own unique qualities. Our soaps are shipped quickly and specially packaged with care. If you are local, we will gladly meet you to deliver your soap, thus saving you shipping costs. We make all of our soaps from “scratch.” No premade soap bases and no shortcuts.
Is your soap suitable for people with sensitive skin?
Absolutely! Our natural handmade soaps are a wonderful choice for sensitive or easily irritated skin. Handmade soaps are naturally gentle and do not contain chemical additives that often cause skin irritation. Everyone’s skin is different, so if you have extremely sensitive skin, try one of our soaps that are especially recommended for your skin type, such as Aloe Comfrey, Sunflower Marigold, or Oatmeal Unscented.
How can I get my handmade soap to last longer?
Simply use our wooden soap dishes with ridges that allow the soap to dry between each use. Your natural soap will last up to 50% longer using a soap dish with ridges. Don’t let the soap sit in the bath water while you’re using it. Always store unused soap in a cool, dry place.
Why is handmade soap better for my skin?
It’s all about the ingredients! Our handmade soaps are made from moisturizing vegetable oils that gently cleanse and nourish without stripping your skin of its natural oils. Commercially mass-produced soaps are made of synthetic detergents and chemicals such as sodium laurel sulfate (SLS), to make their soaps lather more. However, what you really get is a harsh bar of soap that leaves your skin tight and dry. Our handmade soaps are gentle and natural, have a rich creamy lather, and clean your skin without drying it out.
Does your soap contain lye?
All soap is made with lye whether your soap is made by a large company or handcrafted soapmakers. Along with water, sodium hydroxide (aka "lye") is what turns the vegetable oils into rich, creamy, moisturizing soap. Handmade soap retains natural glycerin. No lye remains in a finished bar of soap.
